Yaks & Waterfalls
Lately I've been doing some work out near Paonia. Near the end of the stint, Miranda came down and we met up and went to the grand spring opening of one of the orchards....and sipped much hard cider.
Smelling these flowers almost make you go crosseyed.
Its really nice to come down to the greenery, spring here is probably a month or more ahead of CB.
We spent some time on a friend's yak farm. They have a 40 acre plot, a large pond, and 16 yaks. It was really fun walking around on their property.
Some pretty spring pasque flowers popping up everywhere
This month, spring has included a lot of random snowstorms
They melt away quickly, however.
And then we run away into the desert. Jake here is trying to cool down.
Some modus hoperandis to walk down the creek with
As the canyon narrows up, we come to an exciting obstacle neither of us have ever done before: rappelled down a waterfall.
Jake's obviously ready to go
This waterfall was about 40' or so, and lots of fun. When I went down, my right foot got stuck in between a chockstone near the top of the fall. I slid backwards on the wet rock, and was getting pounded by water and some loose rocks that were falling down on me....in what seemed like several minutes, I was able to pull my foot out in what was really just a few seconds.....Jake was relieved because he really had no idea how he would possibly help me had I remained stuck.
We met up with Annie and her friend Theresa at the Eclectic Cafe in Moab....an awesome breakfast place if you get a chance to go there.
After spending most of the day with temps in the 80's-low 90's....Jake and I were ready to head back up into the mountains. We checked out a part of the La Sal's outside of Moab that we'd never been to.
Tired, slightly bored, oversunned, hungry, and ready for bed (maybe?)
Summer is so close....
Around CB, the weather has been quite dreary with patches of sun, but flowers are beginning to pop up all over.
We're excited to spend the summer in the area (for me, the first time in 2 years that I'll be in the US during the summer, yay!!!!)
Gotta love the skunk cabbage
Tonight, we had some wonderful shishkabobs....gotta take advantage of our deck that's been too cold to be out on all winter.
